Hi! Howdy! Welcome!
My name is Sophie and I am the hands behind Buttermoon Handmade. I grew up in the bucolic little state of Vermont and have been growing food and making things with my hands my whole life.
My grandmother taught me to sew on her mothers singer featherweight when I was a child and I fell in love with how flat fabric comes together to be something exciting. I kept at it and made a lot of questionable garments in my teens. When my son was born I was so disappointed in the quality and craziness of the clothes available so I began sewing simple and sturdy clothing for him and I alike.
When I’m not sitting behind my machines you can find me growing food, exploring plant dyes, knitting, chasing a toddler, and keeping quite busy.
I love being witness to my hands making new things and learning new skill. I trust them to make.
